"The benefits of pile lifting" by Shaun Hachtmann

As Seen in the January 2009 Issue of CleanFax

The pile lifter has long been a tool used by only a few in the trade of carpet cleaning. There are some of you out there who probably use them all the time. For the vast majority though, pile lifting is a foreign concept.

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning & Restoration Certification S100 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Carpet Cleaning identifies three classifications of soil:

1.  Dry particulates such as sand, quartz, clay, carbon, limestone, plus animal hair and vegetable fibers;

2.  Animal, mineral and vegetable soils;

3.  Water soluble soils such as food, soft drinks, etc.

Since most soil in carpet is dry particulate, the build up of these dry soils damages the fiber, creating abrasion and shading issues which depletes the carpet life and can contribute to poor indoore quality.

A complete carpet care program will have a system in place to ensure your customers are always happy with the results. By providing superior services, you will gain more referrals and your business will grow.

So what is a pile lifter?

To put it plainly, it does exactly what the title says it lifts the pile of your carpet.

Have you ever seen dingy, matted-down carpet? Regular cleaning efforts can be limited in efforts to “bring it back”.

A pile lifter will help to rejuvenate those old fibers. Prior to any cleaning process, it will help to break up soil and debris and extract embedded dry particulate matter in carpet fibers, leaving the carpet prepared for thorough cleaning.

Regular use of a pile lifter helps to keep carpeted areas cleaner and more visibly attractive.

A pile lifter can also promote a healthier environment, especially those that filter down to .03 microns in particulate size.

The next time you hear the term pile lifter, think of rejuvination and pile restoration that allows you to show your pride as a carpet professional and provide clean and healthy carpet cleaning.
